Fill the reservoir with water, drop the oils in, put a tea light underneath, and that's it. We all call them oil burners, but really it's an oil heater. Think of it almost like a double boiler - the heat from the candle will just burn the oils. By putting water in the reservoir, the water is heated, which in turn heats the oil. It doesn't need to mix at all, the oils should just sit on top of the water.

Don't let the reservoir run dry - the oils will burn to the side of the bowl, leaving you with a thick sticky mess that's nearly impossible to clean.

Put warm water in the bowl and add a few drops of oil. No need to stir it in, it will just float. Don't forget its burning because the water will eventually evaporate away.
