  1. If you want uplifting and invigorating scents go with citrus smells. Unfortunately using the cheap scented candles isn't going to give you a long lasting scent, I would suggest getting an oil diffuser, you can get them at Wal-Mart for a reasonable price. If you are just looking for a good smell Bath and Body works have some excellent fragrance oils that you can burn for a long lasting good scent. If you want to really get into aromatherapy then you need 100% pure essential oils and they can be quite costly and you need to know what properties they have because some may not work for you! For instance burning citrus essential oils may prevent you from relaxing and getting a good nights sleep. If you want more info on essential oils feel free to e-mail or IM me. Good Luck!

  2. Volatile Organic Compounds in an indoor environment really aren't a good idea. Compounds such as pinene (found in pine and citrus flavors amongst others) react with indoor ozone to generate fine particles, it's these particles that lead to lung cancer and heart disease, strokes etc.

Candles also generate fine particles, far finer than those found in road fumes, as do incense.
