Oh, I love Rescue Remedy! One of my dogs freaks out whenever it rains, much less storms, so I’ve recently started using it. I even use it on myself when I know I’m in for a rough day and it works wonders. You feel a wave of calm wash over you almost immediately. Now that I’ve used it, I keep a bottle in my purse at all times =]

You know that aromatherapy line they have at bath and body works? They have one for sleep (black chamomile is the BEST, but they also have lavender & vanilla and chamomile & lavender). But those are AWESOME. Whenever my dog just doesn’t want to sleep, I’ll spray a bit in the air and then on the part of my bed where he sleeps..it actually works
I’m really curious about the Rescue Remedy (I’ve heard a lot about it) but never actually used it.

To be honest, you’d think scented oils would IRRITATE a dog more than calm it. A dog’s nose is their most sensitive sensory organ, and forcing them to be exposed to such strong smells can actually DEADEN their sense of smell… Numb it, almost. I wouldn’t recommend it.

I used Rescue Remedy on one of my greyhounds who was afraid of thunder. His fear wasn’t as severe as some dogs, so it was enough to calm him enough so he wasn’t shaking and he could lie down relatively calmly.

I’ve never used (or needed) lavender or any essential oil. Don’t know if it works, but I’m very skeptical. Tellington Touch, however, does work. It’s also used for other purposes such as to help dogs in pain.
