I use essential oils directly on my skin all the time with no adverse effects, but "they" always say oils should be diluted in a carrier oil, this is probably because some people have more sensitive skin. Always be sure to test a new oil on a tiny area of skin before you spread it all over yourself. If you want to use a carrier oil, any organic nut or vegetable oil works. Mix 5- 15 drops of essential oil per tablespoon of carrier oil, adjust the strength of the scent by the ratio of drops to tablespoon. Different carrier oils also have qualities that make them good for specific skin conditions etc. Check out this website that tells you the different qualities of the essential oils and the carrier oils as well, happy experimenting! www.thegoldenpixie.com

It may also help to talk to the people behind the counter at your local health/herbal store. They usually know a lot about these products and are glad to share information. I use my lavender oil as a pain reliever directly on my skin with no problem but some people's skin may be more sensitive. Good luck.
