ah, its true oils and oils mix, but u just need to think a little more. a fragance oil is a non drying oil, and linseed oil is drying. so there for, mixing these two oils will decrease the chances of the solution drying and its permance. it might also leave a tacky surface. but people sniffing paintings is not right. artists care about the lucious,rich feel and color of an oil paint, defnitely not its scent.

Yes they mix well….
Its widely used to perserve certain timber too( Linseed Oil)…

please please please read all the precautions on the can before using linseed oil. Linseed oil on some rags I was using caused a house fire for us in 2002. The rags I was using with linseed oil spontaneously combusted and we lost everything. I will never use linseed oil ever again and I caution anyone to use it. They shouldn’t even sell that stuff, it is soooo dangerous!

you can mix them, no problem. the only problem would be is if the fragrance was not an oil, but it may affect the color just a little make sure that you mix your colors to suit your taste and test them before you start your painting. GOOD LUCK

If you want your painting to smell nice you better mix in the oil with the varnish. This works much better because after the paint has dried it also will have encapsulated all the scent.

But if you really have to there is no problem to ad a few drops while painting. It can have unexpected effects as your paint becomes very slippery.

(( As to linseed oil being dangerous…… so are matches, How about flower? If you have very bad luck you can have a dust explosion in your kitchen while backing bread. Linseed oil is very safe. ))

RI have never used fragance oil in my paintings.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO MIX THE LINSEED AN FRAGANCE OIL?

No it’s not a good idea. The two oils will not work well together. The scent of the fragrant oil will eventually dispel but it’s activity in the linseed oil will not. It will retard and decay the pigment as well as the oil.
Colleges has a point about linseed oil, it is combustible when the rags are disposed of in a dangerous manner. After all work with a painting and rags, the rags should be left out to dry alone. Dropping them in the waste basket together is a recipe for fire. The chemical reaction intesifies and before you know it? POOF! a fire is in your studio.
Always dry out the rags or set them outside in a safe place to oxidize in an open area.
I’m very sorry for Colleges mishap, it’s a hard lesson to learn.
