I know that lavender oil is safe, as are most all others in small amounts (even tea tree oil is safe when well diluted, it is only when applied straight or at high concentrations that it is dangerous). My trainer uses lavender oil as a natural aid to calm an excitable dog, and it works, and my dog’s physical therapist used several essential oil blends during massage while she was recovering from orthopedic surgery.

EOs are safe for dogs, but if you have cats or if your dog spends any significant time in an enclosed area with cats, do NOT use them. EOs can be extremely toxic to cats and even small exposures can cause organ failure and death. If you have some particular EOs you want to use, I think as long as you follow the directions for use (from the manufacturer/supplier or from knowledgeable people) then you should be fine, even with tea tree oil. They can be quite useful and great alternatives to artificial chemicals.

Tee Tree oil is a safe product as it’s used in many pet products sold at pet stores and I bought a spray for a hot spot my dog had..I also use clove ,lemon and other citrus scents as a flea and tick controller.

I made a diluted eucalyptus spray and spray it on my dog’s coat to help keep mosquitoes and other biting bugs from bothering her.
The shampoo/conditioner I use for her has several essential oils in it - not sure which as I don’t have a bottle available to look at now.
